WP E-Signature 2.0 Is Here — How to Update
WP E-Signature 2.0 is now available. This post walks through what's changed, the steps to take before and after you update, and where to go if you need a hand.
What's New in WP E-Signature 2.0 🚀
This release reflects more than two years of focused improvements, designed to keep WP E-Signature performing reliably as WordPress evolves — without changing the workflows you already rely on.
Here's what you'll notice after updating:
- A refreshed dashboard with cleaner navigation for faster day-to-day work
- A clearer signing flow that helps clients complete documents with less friction
- More consistent behavior across add-ons and integrations, so workflows feel predictable
Update Checklist (Important) ✅
To keep your signing workflows running smoothly, follow these steps in order. The order matters and skipping steps can cause workflows to stop working as expected.
Before Updating
- Take a full backup of your WordPress site (we love Updraft!)
- Confirm you're running WordPress 5.0 or higher
- Confirm your site's PHP version is 8.0 or higher
Update
- Update the WP E-Signature core plugin
- Update all WP E-Signature add-ons (WP E-Signature Add-ons or WP E-Signature Business Add-ons)
- Update any eSignature bridge plugins you use (Gravity Forms Signature add-on, WooCommerce Signature add-on, Ninja Forms, WPForms, etc.)
After Updating
Test your workflow end-to-end:
- Go through your entire process exactly as a signer would
- If you use form plugin workflows, submit a test form and complete the signing steps
- If you use eCommerce workflows, place a test order and complete the document signing
- Confirm documents display correctly, emails are sent, and signatures are captured as expected
- Confirm logos, color customization options, and email template options are displayins as expected
⚠️ Don't skip workflow testing ⚠️
Most update issues are discovered during testing — not during the update itself. A few minutes of testing now can prevent disruptions later. If you have a staging site, we strongly recommend running through this checklist there first before updating your live site.
Rollback Option (If Needed)
If something isn't working as expected after updating, you can roll back to the previous version of WP E-Signature. Previous plugin files are available here (you must be logged in to ApproveMe.com to view this page): WP E-Signature Rollback Plugins
To roll back:
- Take another full backup of your WordPress site
- Download the previous plugin files from the link above
- Make sure the E-Signature Danger Zone option is not checked under E-Signature > Settings > Advanced
- Replace the new plugin files with the previous ones
